What If Suddenly My Plants Could Actually Talk Back!

I have never had a green thumb per se. But let’s be honest, this pandemic has made a lot of folks a plant parent. People have become green lovers now more than ever. And I was a part of this revolution too.

I have a mini garden on my balcony with 18 plants. A few are thriving however a few ,well, not so much. I am a newbie at this so I have definitely killed a handful of them. Now that I have started getting a hang of it, I was thinking what if I could talk to my plants!

My now dead chrysanthemum

My gardening journey began with an air plant tillandsia. It was a gift from my best friend so it was obviously very special. However, I just couldn’t understand how to take care of it.

I read innumerable articles, watched videos, did everything to have it growing and flourishing. But No!

It kept deteriorating day by day and eventually died.

I wish that it could directly tell me what’s wrong. Like “ Hey, please keep me in a more humid place” Or “Ugh! Stop it, I’m fine. Let me be’’

I would love to have a one on one conversation with my plants.

Once I remember, I was having a bad day at work. I came home and just sat on my balcony surrounded by my little plants. I didn’t feel alone. In fact I felt so much better. I felt as if they could understand.

Without any kind of conversation, if they made me feel so much better, I could only imagine how they would cheer me up if they could converse by saying something like

“Hey bud, you are our sunshine *whispering* not literally though”

You’re the best Plant Mom ever

Ahh! So much better.

The Indoor Lot

There would be no need to keep a track of each one’s watering and fertilizing schedule. They would just chime in when they need it.

They would directly say things like “Hey man! I’m thirsty. You forgot to give me a drink today

I wouldn’t have had green blood on my hands then. Especially those cute succulents. I have killed all of them only and only because of overwatering.

So a “Oh God! Leave me alone!” from them would have saved their lives.

Life would be so much easier. All requirements taken care of.

Imagine, in the middle of the day hearing cries “Help! I’m burning here. Somebody take me in

And not to forget what a fun activity plant shopping would be. Imagine going up to plant directly, instead of the caretaking gardeners, and asking –

So what are your requirements?

Where do you prefer living – Indoors or Outdoors?

How often do you feel thirsty?

It would be like a professional interview.

Who knows, maybe plants do actually talk among themselves. A research shows that plants talk to each other through their roots.

Some might be friends. Some might not get along with others.

Rose might actually be the king and Peace lilies might actually be the peace makers.

I guess we’ll never know!
